My name is Jennifer E. Bello-Sardina. I am the sister of Janice M. Bello and friend of Giovanna Martinez. 21 years ago these two beautiful young girls 16 and 17 were taken from us in a tragic car accident by a reckless driver who had a suspended license at the time. Yileimy Suarez is her name and she is responsible for the deaths of Janice and Giovy. Yileimy took a red light at over 75 miles per hour after it was red for a total of 7 seconds prior to crossing the intersection. Fortunately, we had two eye witnesses who testified in court and we hired an expert engineer to confirm that Yileimy Suarez never applied her brakes. This was VEHICULAR HOMICIDE. PROVEN in a court of law and Yileimy Suarez was brought to justice. The reason for this is to counter-petition the petition that is currently out there named "Free Yileimy Suarez". It states false information and it is very offensive to the victims and their families. Everyone is entitled to their freedom of speech, however, the statements made in this petition are false and offensive. The facts were stated and filed with the courts. Yileimy Suarez was convicted by a jury based on facts and evidence presented. I as a human being can understand how her son would like to free his mother, however not at the expense of lying about my sister Janice and Giovy being under the influence and making false statements about the incident. My family, Giovy's family, and all of our friends were given a life sentence at the hands of Yileimy Suarez. Yileimy killed my sister and Giovy and showed zero remorse after the accident and during the trial. Fortunate for her, she has been able to hug her kids, hear their voice, tell them she loves them as stated in her son's petition. We have none of that. Yileimy Suarez's actions were so detrimental that my father couldn't bear the pain of losing my sister Janice and never seeing her again that he committed suicide. We found him hugging my sister's picture. I too write this in tears just as her son states in his petition. I LOST EVERYTHING! My family and I do not have a "Release Date". We have a LIFE SENTENCE. My best friend was taken from me. My children have missed out on the love of their aunt and their grandfather. Giovanna's mother was left without her daughter-her only child! You tell me if this was justice? I ask of you before signing a petition, passing judgment, or making offensive comments regarding victims and their families, to educate yourself on the facts. Be a leader not a follower. Janice and Giovy's voice, rights and life were taken away by Yileimy Suarez. With what right? I will tell you that for as long as I am living, I will be Janice and Giovy's voice along with our family and friends. WE WILL BE THEIR VOICE! We will continue to seek justice for such injustice. Time needs to be served! Janice and Giovanna are not coming back no matter how many petitions I write. The sentence was 30 years and Yileimy's release date is set for August 16, 2027. She will ONLY be serving 27 years! 3 years were taken off. Enough is enough! Yileimy Suarez needs to be held accountable for the havoc she has wreaked on our lives. Governor De Santis I humbly write to you to please consider the victims and their families, look at the facts and the court case. The evidence, eye witnesses, the experts, the tragedy that occurred here at the hands of a reckless driver cannot be overlooked.
