KEEP OPEN HANGAR B HISTORIC AIRCRAFT RESTORATION PROJECT

KEEP OPEN HANGAR B HISTORIC AIRCRAFT RESTORATION PROJECT
The Issue
National Parks Services provide programs in Discovery & History.
The Historic Aircraft Restoration Project (H.A.R.P.) of Hangar B at Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreation Area has been restoring vintage aircraft for 20 years. One of the United States’ treasures, it is a “Living Museum” where volunteers come together from every background and level of expertise to preserve Aviation History and the mighty aircraft built by this nation that helped turn the tide of many wars.
Hangar B’s Volunteers include Veterans from every branch of the armed services who served in wars going back to WWII! Civilian aviation experts also join the teams of volunteers donating their time to preserve the Nation’s Aviation History.
The history of Floyd Bennett Field itself is dazzling. Home to many a historic flight by, amongst others, Wiley Post, Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart and Howard Hughes. Winston Churchill paid a visit to Hangar B en-route to DC for meetings with President Truman.
The Hangar B Historic Aircraft Restoration Project has been closed due to Covid 19, but Gateway National Recreation Area National Parks Service are shutting it down, preventing Vets & other volunteers from continuing their restorations that were fully active before Covid shutdown. Leaders of Gateway National Recreation, NPS have not gotten in touch with Volunteers - they just discarded them after 20 years of hard restoration work.
Our Hangar B Volunteer base are dedicated to preserving the history of our outstanding former US Naval Air Station here at Floyd Bennett Field, and providing valuable resources to inspire children to become future Pilots, Engineers and Mechanics!
We, the undersigned, would like to see their work continue with the reopening of The Historic Aircraft Restoration Project at Hangar B, Floyd Bennett Field, returning restoration projects to full activity, and welcoming back all its Volunteers.
Thank you.
