Dear Governor Rauner,

We understand you are considering signing Senate Bill 2989, which would make it a felony for retailers to ship wine into Illinois.

This bill stands in the way of free competition and consumer choice in the state of Illinois.

Other states allow out-of-state retailers to obtain a direct shipping license, providing both oversight and valuable tax revenue. We think this is the right approach for Illinois — creating competition, consumer choice, and revenue to help balance our state’s budget.

Please veto Senate Bill 2989.
