Governor Baker, add Massachusetts to the U.S. Climate Alliance

This petition made change with 22 supporters!

After President Trump announced his decision to remove the United States from the Paris climate accord,  Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker stated that he would continue “aggressively working to exceed the goals of the Paris agreement on the state level, while growing our economy through clean energy innovation and environmental stewardship.”

The signers of this petition ask Governor Baker to reaffirm this commitment by joining California, New York, and Washington in the newly-formed US Climate Alliance, a coalition launched to convene U.S. states committed to upholding the Paris Climate Agreement and taking aggressive action on climate change.

In choosing to step away from the Paris agreement, the US government has abdicated its position as a leader on issues of climate change and clean energy development. It has therefore been left to local governments to ensure that policies continue to protect the long-term well-being of both US citizens and the environment.

Governor Baker, we urge you to act now to support the US Climate Alliance in its stated goals of sustaining and strengthening existing climate programs, promoting the sharing of information and best practices, and implementing new programs to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors of the economy.
