Jefferson Davis is arguably the MOST misunderstood and under appreciated man in the historical tapestry of America. He was a man of his times, and that is why few of us today truly know what this man did for his country, America. A true Patriot and a reluctant secessionist, but who was he?  Here is the _short_ version:

UNITED STATES MILITARY SERVICE:

• West Point Cadet, 1824 to 1828
  U. S. Army, 2nd Lieutenant, 1828 to 1835
  U. S. Army, Colonel, 1847 and 1848   

UNITES STATES GOVERNMENT SERVICE

• Representative to Congress, 1845 to 1847
  U. S. Senator, 1848 to 1853
  Secretary of War, 1853 to 1857
  U. S. Senator 1857 to 1861

Yet he is judged by only 4 years...

Lets compare his Public Service to a contemporary of his, Abraham Lincoln.

Lincoln had:

• 3 months in the Illinois Militia
  4 years U. S. Senator
  5 years U. S. President

Yet both men were born 1 year and 40 miles apart. Both men resided in Kentucky for roughly 7 years total. Jefferson was able to visit Kentucky a number of times in his later years but sadly Lincoln could not.

One man has a MUCH LARGER statue in center of the Rotunda, the other a smaller statue to the side.

Leave statues of Henry Clay, Alben Barkley, Dr. Ephraim McDowell, Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln in the Rotunda as they are! None of them were perfect. Each of them does have questionable periods in their lives too!.

Stop bringing this up every election cycle! Stop trying to rewrite history!
