State-level monument protection laws are either absent or are being circumvented by local jurisdictions. The attacks on veterans monuments continue unabated. While we continue to support strengthened protections at the state and local levels, the time has come to stop cultural and historic cleansing with new hard-hitting and effective federal laws.
