Renewable Energy, Renewable World

The Issue

The Earth is a very important place, the reason being that us humans rely on it for survival. Scientists have found planets and moons similar to Earth, but have been unsuccessful in finding one with living conditions suitable for us. Take one of Saturn’s moons, Titan, for example: It looks just like Earth and is habitable- except for the fact that it is too far away from the Sun and is therefore too cold for us to inhabit. But why are scientists trying to find new planets for us to live on in the first place? The answer is simple: climate change. Climate change is one of the biggest threats we have ever experienced, and the reason it exists is humans. Yep- that’s right- people- humans- throughout time have caused climate change. But why is it such a big problem? Well, humans breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Plants then absorb the carbon dioxide we breathe and release it again as oxygen. Without plants, humans would be extinct along with most other life on Earth. It’s an environmental balance that has been going on for as long as both species existed. However, human activity in the past couple of centuries has greatly increased the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. This causes the Sun’s heat to be trapped inside the Earth’s atmosphere, thus increasing the planet’s temperature and causing climate change.

Climate change can have devastating effects on both the Earth and its environment. These effects include melting ice caps (which cause rising sea levels), floods, more frequent natural disasters, and even food security. It can cause entire coastal regions to be consumed by the sea, raise the acidification levels in the ocean, and, most importantly, in more ways than one cause a lot of death. But we can stop all of this from continuing to happen by stopping climate change. As previously mentioned, humans are the cause of climate change. But what exactly are we doing? Humans are causing climate change by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere in many ways, but the main thing we are doing is using nonrenewable resources such as fossil fuels for our energy. Then what’s the solution?

The solution? Renewables! Just like nonrenewable sources, they can produce energy. The difference? RENEWABLES DON’T CAUSE CLIMATE CHANGE. They are the answer, the solution, to climate change. They still produce energy. Renewably produced energy is still energy- it just does not cause climate change. So sign this petition, switch to renewables, and save the world!!
