My sister saves lives - PLEASE SAVE HERS!!!

The issue

My darling, beautiful, gorgeous, kind, caring, wonderful sister Jenny, is a humanitarian activist on the front line in Lesvos, Greece, of the International refugee, humanitarian crisis.

Over the past 6 months, she has given up her life to volunteer throughout Europe with the refugees. In which time, she has witnessed unimaginable pain, suffering and distress. She tells of horror stories which to you, or I, are the stuff of nightmares.

Yesterday, April 4th, on the back of the EU-Turkey deal, enforcements began the deportation of refugees, seeking asylum from Lesvos into Turkey which they have deemed the "safe-zone".  From here, it is inevitable that they will be deported back to Syria (the war torn country, they fled) , where their faith is incomprehensible.

As Jenny herself said, yesterday..."I cannot begin to express the hopelessness and heartache, I feel right now. Turkey is not a safe country. How can we turn our backs on these people?"

In her desperation to help these refugees and in attempt to draw attention to the world and unite people on opposing and abolishing this agreement movement between EU and Turkey she has resorted to, and already began a HUNGER STRIKE!

It is imperative to you, the reader, to note at this point, that my sister Jenny has TYPE 1 DIABETES AND IS INSULIN DEPENDENT.

Without insulin the body burns its own fats as a substitute which releases chemical substances in the blood. Without ongoing injections of insulin, the dangerous chemical substances will accumulate and can be life threatening if it is not treated. This is a condition call ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis is a serious condition associated with illness or very high blood glucose levels in type 1 diabetes. It develops gradually over hours or days.

Hypoglycemia occurs when blood glucose levels fall below 4 mmol/L (72mg/dL).

By refusing to eat Jenny's blood sugar levels will fall rapidly which will have serious health risks attached. BLURRED VISION and CONFUSION will onset quickly, followed by CONVULSIONS, LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS and most likely without intervention, COMA. A higher heart rate than usual, which could lead to a massive HEART ATTACK/STROKE.

I cannot stress enough, the severity of the impact this action will have on her directly at the risk of her depriving her body of the food and insulin she needs. The longer her crusade goes on the closer she is to LIMB AMPUTATIONS, BLINDNESS, ORGAN FAILURE and inevitably DEATH.

Jenny is now, and always has been the most strong willed, head strong, stubborn person I have ever known. She has so much compassion and empathy towards these people and is so emotionally invested in this cause that already I know that by beginning this Hunger Strike, she has willingly decided to accept the fact that she may DIE in an attempt to make change. And although I am immensely proud of the wonderful, awe inspiring work she is doing, I cannot sit back and allow this to happen.

She is my baby sister, she is the daughter of my heart broken parents, she is the sibling of my distraught brother and sisters, she is more than just Jenny, she is our everything.

So I am urging you, begging you with all of my might to all get involved and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION.

Together we can make a difference. Together we can make change. Together we can be powerful. Together we can save lives. Together we can save Jenny.

These refugees need Jenny but JENNY NEEDS US!!!

Signed, her distraught sister, Amy Mc Guire.
