Would you like your Barber/ Hairdresser to be Qualified?

Would you like your Barber/ Hairdresser to be Qualified?
The Issue
We would like to have registered barbers & hairdressers of qualified status!
This will ensure the public get a professional, Health & Safety compliant service! Allowing the industry to be seen as a professional trade that requires a certain amount of knowledge, to trade.
This will raise the standards of practice across the UK in Health & Safety, the craft itself, the business environment, recruitment, training, equipment, sanitation, sales, production, education, marketing etc.
Spawning other industries such as recruitment, insurance, agencies, advertising, regulatory companies, and other businesses.
The long term goal will be to have an industry that a young person can enter from school and be taught to a high standard. Improving businesses that they may provide, even better services for the public.
Therefor enabling a better family life with stable improved wages. In turn ensuring the industry works more efficient for apprenticeships, recruitment and business relations in all sectors of the industry. A man / woman that is well educated can make a much better impact on the country’s development that will yield better fruit and invest in this UK’s infrastructure from tourism to production.
The main challenge for barbers & hairdressers that are now practicing correctly with qualifications; is that their faced with other shops surrounding their businesses occupied with people that have not taken the professional route. Resulting in price war undercutting; due to the lack of career investment!Anyone can open a salon or barbers and just perform! Allowing the public to assume they maybe qualified because they have a shop premise. More than often enough this is not the case. Protected by this unregulated industry they can continue to exploit the many facist of business from staff pay to illegal immigrants and even drug trafficking. The public suffers mostly with chemical treatments being conducted without the correct safety guidelines, creating harmful conditions on the skin, hair and scalp . In some cases irreparable damage is done ruining their social endeavours for long or short time periods, and too often enough permanently. The uneducated hair cutter can call him/herself a barber/hairdresser, due to the aesthetics placed around them; forgery can be made quite easily! With this mindset the haircutter will cut every corner possible even to the point where they will do the same with there clients consciously and unconsciously. Resulting with people in many areas of the UK constantly searching for a good haircut and service and sometimes just the cheapest one!
This leads to unconscious compliant behaviour of bad service as many of the general public just think that’s how it is; I can get a rash or scalp burn from this one, but actually get bleed cut from this one, they don’t have sinks, this one does, the one that has does not use it to clean tools; they pick tools from a dirty drawer! The list can go on and on, unswept floors for people to fall on is just only the tip of the iceberg. There is a whole paraphernalia of aspects that is hindering this great industry of hair from moving forward in becoming professionally recognised for its craft and more importly; the intellect that is more than often overlooked in the skill set needed to be a Master Barber/ Hairdresser.
Join us in this plea to make barbering/hairdressing great & a respected Industry as any other trade!
