On Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 9.15pm our beloved neighbour's male cat Ginger Dolly who was only 2 years old was brutally killed in a horrific hit and run incident, and left for dead outside its house by the driver. We and the neighbour have CCTV footage that showed the driver was driving a Dark Blue Toyota Prius speeding around the bend of Masefield Avenue and dragging him to his death. By the time we saw him it was too late and he died on the spot. It was very emotional and stressing to see him lying there by himself. I can't image just how much pain he must have been in and calling for help. Unfortunately, as the driver was driving too fast our and our neighbour's CCTV footage was not able to pick up the number plate of his or her car. It was so heart breaking to see him helplessly dead. There are blood stains who've him on the road. I keep seeing the vision of his sweet, little, innocent face and saying to myself why did this happen it's all a bad dream and I need to wake up but it was not a dream. We all can't stop crying. We loved that cat as much as our neighbour's and people on the road. He always came to visit us and we always gave him food, love and he slept outside in our back garden on its comfortable blanket when he wanted. It was unconditional love both ways. Our hearts have been ripped into pieces. We didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. He didn't deserve to die like this. He was such a special cat so loving and very friendly to everyone on our road. He loved everyone on the road. He had his whole life ahead of him that was robbed within seconds. No one knew his life was going to be this short. We loved him so much that each day is going to be so lonely without him. There are two reasons why I have set up this petition. Firstly, I am so angry and fed up of people taking advantage of using our road Masefield Avenue as a race track. I need something done about our road to prevent irresponsible drivers from speeding and driving dangerously, recklessly and negligently causing unnecessary death to vulnerable cats and other animals who are not protected by law and even human beings. Secondly, to make law to protect cats from hit and run incidents.These incidents whether intentionally or unintentionally need to be taken seriously. This is no joke. I am sure if this was a child who was killed by a driver in hit and run things would be very different. So why not an animal. It is still a life that was taken. No one deserves to suffer like Ginger Dolly. It is high time that these drivers pay for their actions by making it a criminal offence if a driver kills a cat and does not report it or take any other necessary action to prevent death. The driver deserves to be punished for his or her actions. This will be justice for our Ginger Dolly who was taken away from us suddenly and other cats who have died the same way. He deserves that much at least and to prevent heart breaks of other cat lovers going through the same ordeal. I couldn't save our Ginger Dolly, but I am certainly not giving up on protecting our other cats on the road. I will not rest until justice is served. He was not just a cat he was our family and will always be our family. Thank you for coming into our life's and giving us so much love, happiness and lots of mischief. You will be missed dearly my Dolly. God bless you young one. You are now with the almighty god who has taken you under his wings. We pray you will always be happy and get the justice you deserve. They say cats have 9 lives, so I believe that one day we will meet again my sweet Dolly. Until then rest in heavenly peace.
