MARGARET NICHOLLS started this petition to Government

As a carer for someone who, due to many health issues, has constant hospital appointments. I find it appalling that we have to pay seriously high car parking charges when attending hospital.   For example, you may be given a 9.30am appointment but with the pressures on the NHS it is very rare that you will be seen at the given time.  Meanwhile you have been asked to pay for a specific time period in the car park and if you fail to keep to the time you are slapped by Parking Eye with an automatic £70 fine.  There is also the ridiculous "waiting" bays where you park in order to pick someone up after their appointment or stay in hospital but here you are given only 20 minutes in which to run in, grab the patient and get them, their belongings and probably wheelchair back and in the car before the time runs out and another £70 fine is slapped on you.  If you require hospital appointments then you should NOT be penalised by being forced to pay for parking.  It is time that the government found other ways to get funding as this is once again penalising the most vulnerable in our society and their friends and relatives.  Going or being in hospital is not like a pleasant outing, it is a necessity and parking should be free.  Please sign to bring this to the government.
