Terminate the selling of racist products in indian market
The Issue
Racism is a constant and cruel reality in India. People all across the country favour white people over black or brown people and this has to be changed asap. There are two major classification made by the people that north indians are “Gore Chitey” log and south indians on the other hand are dark skinned. Delving into a culture that fixates on white skin-colour and differentiates within it’s own country. India’s racist tendencies reflect in our attitudes toward the people from the southern state. South indians should not have to fight stereotypes. We cannot blame the society for seeing dark skinned people differently as the indian media and markets support this system. Fairness cream, soap ,etc, have played a huge role in changing the mind of these people.
India’s favourite fairness cream Fair & Lovely seems to be taking responsibility for the inherent racism and colourism that the product has perpetuated for decades. It’s parent company Hindustan Unilever announced on 25th of june,2020 that the product line would be rebranded and the word ‘Fair’ has been dropped from the brand name, while the company’s advertising would evolve to feature women of different skin tones. Why not drop the product altogether?.
Not only the ‘cream’ is a typical example of racism in India but it also has it’s own side effects Using the creams with steroids may end up with some other side effects like permanent stretch marks , pimples, darkening of the skin, skin-allergy and dis-figuration, etc. The 'strong-version' fairness creams also contain hydroquinone, a chemical which has the bleaching affect, and still most of the population of India blindly use the cream.
These fairness products are mostly used by women in India because the society is not “ready to accept” dark skin or brown skin as if they are dark they won’t get married , yes that’s true people still believe that. You have to be fair to be successful which is not even half true. For being a successful person you don’t have to be of light skin tone you just have to work hard. I Adya Rahi invite you all to sign this petition as a small step leads to big changes. Thank you.
