Government should compensate victims of the Jan 2019 shutdown as part of the reforms.
The Issue
I am one of the victims and I was shot by the ZRP for no reason. I had multi-fracture on my leg. I can no longer carry heavy things and I used to work at a flour packaging company and it makes it hard for me to bring food on the table for my family.
There are others who faced even worse than me, I remember a woman who was shot by the millitary in Epworth and now she is an amputee.
A lot of people have suffered and only a few managed to report these human rights violations. A lot needs to be done even to the families of the deceased.
THIRTEEN CATEGORIES OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS WERE DOCUMENTED.
THERE WERE 17 EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS, 81 GUN RELATED INJURIES,954 ABITRARY ARRESTS,REPORTS OF ABDUCTIONS AND TORTURE, INVERSION OF PRIVACY,SEXUAL ASSULTS, ETC.
Others like me will have to endure chronic pain for the rest of our lives lives and will rely on pain killers at certain times.
Thereare others who where victimised in remote areas and haven't managed to access medical attention in time and their conditions became worse , they also need to take care of their selves and their families too.
I am hoping that the Ministry of Home Affairs will see this issue on a victims perspective and would act accordingly and see that the victims are COMPANSATED
for contumelia and shock caused by our security forces.
I hope The Parliament of Zimbabwe will play it's role to speed up the litigation process so that the victims will be COMPANSATED accordingly.
Legal means to settle this issue have been approached but it is taking more time than it must take hence the need to sign this petition.
