AES plans to build (8) 568 ft tall wind turbines in close proximity to the Kahuku residential community. The closest wind turbine is only 1,900 ft (.36 miles) from Kahuku Elementary School and 1,574 ft (.29 miles) from the nearest residence. The negative effects on the community include: 

• Threat to the ‘ope‘ape‘a (Hawaiian hoary bat and endangered species)
• Noise pollution affecting sleep and learning
• Visual annoyance ruining the backdrop of our country landscape
• Shadow flicker which has the potential to induce epilepsy seizures, annoyance, stress, and safety concerns
• Wind farm site is located in the Ko’olauloa Aquifer system used for drinking water and highly vulnerable to contamination
• Estimated 10%-25% reduction of Kahuku property values ($40,000-$100,000 per household)
