I received an email today from Rob Fairy, Head of Strategic Planning from Network Rail regarding the possible future reinstatement of the railway line to Mablethorpe.

Network Rail will be doing this work during 2022, and this will include them speaking to local stakeholders, including councils, and the Restoring Your Railway Promoters (Department for Transport).

A business case needs to be developed in order for a new railway line to Mablethorpe to be considered.

Feel free to have a read through this email from Rob Fairy. At least it's good that they are finally looking at Lincolnshire in order to improve connectivity, public transport, etc.

Jamie,

Thank you for contacting me about the potential reinstatement of the railway line to Mablethorpe.

As part of our license, Network Rail is required to plan the future of the railway and we largely do this through a process called Strategic Advice. This is a rolling programme of work that looks at specific areas of the network and assesses what is required for the medium and long-term, with appropriate recommendations made both to the industry and the Department for Transport.

As identified in the letter from the Secretary of State, one such area we are about to look at is Lincolnshire. We’ll be assessing what is required for the area over the next thirty years, including but not limited to providing greater connectivity, accommodating more services and improving the links between different modes of transport.

As part of this assessment we’ll be speaking to local stakeholders, including councils and Restoring Your Railways proposers, to understand what evidence there is that would support a business case for potential new lines to places like Mablethorpe.

We expect to conclude this work during 2022, making a set of recommendations for the industry and DfT to consider for further development.
