Remove Toll Booths from the City limits

Remove Toll Booths from the City limits
The Issue
When we pay road tax, why should we also have to shell out for toll fee — this is a constant refrain of many road users.
People staying in OMR or Working in OMR are forced to pay toll at OMR. For Example a resident staying in a gated community is not having a direct access road to reach the city without passing through the OMR. If he have to reach Tidel Park he may have to take a roundabout of 12 kms extra just because there is a toll booth in the OMR. Hundreds of vehicles line up along the 3-km stretch between SRP Tools and Perungudi main toll plaza awaiting clearance at the toll entrance to proceed. It will be a similar scene at the toll plazas in Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur and Navallur.
There are rules governing the location of toll plazas and they are not permitted within city limits. “For instance, the toll plaza on Rajiv Gandhi Salai is within the Chennai Corporation limits and residents in the surrounding areas have been protesting for quite some time, demanding its removal.”
Chennai corporation has expanded it’s city limits.
The municipalities that would be part of the expanded Chennai Corporation are Kathivakkam, Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram,Ambattur, Maduravoyal, Valasaravakkam, Alandur and Ullagaram-Puzhudhivakkam.
The town panchayats are Chinna Sekkadu, Puzhal, Porur, Nandambakkam, Meenambakkam, Perungudi, Pallikaranai and Sholinganallur.
The panchayat unions identified are Edayanchavady, Sadayankuppam, Kattapakkam, Theeyampakkam, Mathur, Vada Perumbakkam, Surapet, Kathirvedu, Puthagaram, Nolambur, Karambakkam, Nerkundram, Ramapuram, Mugaliwakkam, Manapakkam, Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, Injambakkam, Karapakkam, Okkiam Thoraipakkam, Madipakkam, Jaladampet, Semmanchery and Uthandi.
