Why should we Sri Lankans worry about a single company called PAYPAL?
Well the answer is quite an interesting and a long one, but very important to Sri Lanka and its younger generation and its future.
India, China, Malaysia today has become IT hubs thanks to this and other companies like Paypal.
What is PAYPAL?
PayPal is an online payments system. Online money transfers serve as electronic alternatives to traditional paper methods like checks and money orders.
PayPal is one of the world's largest internet payment companies.[6] The company operates as an acquirer, performing payment processing for online vendors, auction sites and other commercial users, for which it charges a fee.

Who needs Paypal?
• Freelance workers
• Online venders of goods and services
• Business Process Outsourcing Contractors (BPO)
Who are Freelance workers?
Freelance worker can be an individual offering their services from data entry and being a virtual assistant like a secretary online who you’ve never met in person to highly qualified consultants, IT specialists, Designers for companies and individuals who need their work done from other countries like USA, Europe, and Australia.
Who are online vendors E-commerce sites?
Online vendors or E-commerce web sites are web sites that provide goods and services on the internet for sale, such as clothing stores online or Ebay.com or Alibaba.com for example.
Who is a Business Process Outsourcing Contractor? (BPO Contractors)
A subset of outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of a specific business process to a third-party service provider on the internet. We already have these so called BPO companies in Sri Lanka but are restricted to a sort of a mafia of companies due to many issues and one is Paypal not being in Sri Lanka.
The internet usage in Sri Lanka has risen to 4,439,000 connections by 2014 and facebook users have risen to 2,400,000 by 2014http://goo.gl/bCbXPS out of these facebook users at least 200,000 users are freelancers, BPO contractors or E-commerce vendors that make their living via the internet.
This 200,000 can become 1,000,000 in the next 2 years if this one single facility of free and easy money transferring method which is Paypal becomes fully accessible in Sri Lanka.
Right now we only use Paypal for making payments when ever buying something online but, we are not able to receive money as Sri Lankans. India, China and Malaysia have this option and are making billions of dollars a day as we speak.
CBSL (Central Bank of Sri Lanka) tried or at least we were told they were to rectify this problem including the previous government but dreadfully failed.
This movement is an online movement that is striving to obtain this wonderful facility or rather this opportunity of equality in the vast competitive e-commerce industry.
We intend to make all efforts possible to open the eyes of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Finance and the existing government to make this a reality for all existing Sri Lankan freelancers and generations to become in the future.
We call for the Sri Lankan government to hear our plea we are also talking about a minimum of 200,000 voters or most probably more.
So all freelancers, E-commerce vendors and BPO contractors of Sri Lanka let’s do our bit and unite to strengthen our motherland and our highly educated young, let’s walk for hope….
