Quick Facts
Hunting, Trapping and Fishing are recognized as important contributors to the Canadian economy.

Hunters buy approximately 600,000 licences to hunt in Ontario each year, generating approximately $26 million in revenue.

To report unlawful night hunting or any other illegal and unsafe hunting activity, call the MNRF TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

Helpful Information:

There are several ways hunters can keep themselves, and those around them, safe while enjoying the great outdoors. These include:

__Handling firearms with care and attention at all times
__Never shooting unless you're sure of your target and what lies beyond
__Never drinking alcohol while hunting
__Wearing hunter orange
__If you hunt from a tree stand, always wearing a safety harness and using a rope to raise and lower your firearm
__Telling someone where you will be hunting and when you will be returning
__Carrying a survival kit and a small first aid kit with you at all times

Hunting or trapping during Covid19:

__Pack your own food, supplies and essentials and go directly to your hunting or trapping location to minimize potential exposure.

__Avoid touching any hard surface without protection. Wear gloves if you can. If you don’t have surgical gloves, work gloves are better than nothing. Anything that provides a barrier between your skin and a contaminated surface can help.

__If you do decide to hunt with a partner and they exhibit any symptoms such as coughing, fever, aches or sore throat — or has been exposed to someone with coronavirus, don’t go.

__And ensure you do all you can to avoid touching any surfaces your friend has touched.

__Agree that the two of you will follow 2 metre social distancing and do not touch anything the other has touched.

__Keep sanitizing surfaces around you and do not share firearms or other equipment to avoid cross contamination.

__Take separate vehicles if possible and wear a mask where applicable.

__Do not hunt in groups unless you are with members of your own household (residing under the same roof).

__Continuously wash your hands.

__Clean your equipment when you get home.

__Use common sense.

The Ontario government, in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police, is encouraging all hunters to become familiar with all safety rules and resources that are available to them to ensure a safe hunting season.
