Government of Meghalaya has declared PWD Compound in Barik, Shillong to be transformed into a shopping mall. We already know what extreme urbanisation has done to the scenic beauty of Shillong.

After promising a heritage site on the said ground, the government deceived the public and took a u-turn by giving the land away to crony businessmen. Another Crowborough Hotel in the making, this will further deplete another public recreational space. 

This is sheer political greed that is going to strangle Shillongites, taking away one of the last vestiges of precious open space.
