Kundavada Lake in Davangere is one of the major  water source for the city contributing to 60% of the city's drinking water  and most preferred lake by the migratory birds who nest during breeding season and forms a major  contribution to bio diversity of the city. This lake is also the house for various bird species other than migratory birds. Around 150-200 bird species, 48 butterflies, reptiles, mammals, innumerable plants and insects have been recorded in and around this lake. Davangere being a water scarce area and  this lake being the major source has been housed with large bio-diversity and flora and fauna.

Further, this natural lake has been a major contributor for the improvement of underground water of the city. As this being a major source to the city, the drinking water and underground source would be at maximum risk as the water will be emptied for a year or so. Under smart city program, this water body is emptied now for construction activities to increase the pavement area for cycling and other recreational activities which is ideally not required. This construction or so called development of the lake will hinder the entire the underground water levels, flora, fauna and Bird life and somniate the bio-diversity.
