Day 142 Post Submission | GOJ Gives $1B of the Approx $5B Subvention Requested as Increase

Hi Friends,
Just saw this, headline a short while ago via jamaica-gleaner.com "UTech Gets Increased Subvention" got excited --then got suspicious.
As you read it, bear in mind that in February 2019 when there was the joint student and staff subvention protest, the University's Management indicated they were asking the Government of Jamaica to increase our University's subvention from $2B to approximately $5B.
In addition, bear in mind that this is the first formal update on subvention matters by either the University's Management or the Government of Jamaica, since they had their May 10th, 2019 meeting, which was also attended by the Academic Union.
Finally, bear in mind that it is the widely held view by UTech, Jamaica stakeholders that the referenced $1B is what the University used to begin paying the Academic Union their long overdue salary increase. At least 2 more payments are due to our lecturers between now and next year 2020, for the University to make them whole and live up to the signed agreement of years ago.
Increased subvention?
1 bill (being) paid?
3 month wait for an update?
Thanks for your support of our National University, UTech, Jamaica.
We crave your continued vigilance and monitoring of how our government treats this 60+ year old institution.
