Day 115 Post Submission | Some Good News, Though Still No Official Word on Subvention

Hi Friends,
The good news is that last week was pay week, and some of my academic colleagues have shared that they experienced a positive change to their salaries.
This apparently is fruit from the the May 10th, 2019 meeting hosted by the Government of Jamaica with the Management of the University of Technology, Jamaica, [UTech Academic Staff Union (UTASU) in attendance] to discuss the Government's Subvention.
In addition, it would be the 1st of the scheduled payments 2019-2020 representing the overdue Salary Adjustment our lecturers have been advocating for.
So I thank God for this positive outcome for the academic staff.
In addition, I thank you for being part of this significant 17,500+ global community, which has united in support of the Increase in the Subvention to the University of Technology, Jamaica, Commensurate with Need.
There is no doubt that our advocacy in signing this petition has contributed to the payment of this long earned and overdue benefit to the faculty members of our national university, UTech, Jamaica.
Despite this payment of arrears to faculty, we remain vigilant on the main issue of the Government providing the required increase in subvention.
Why is this still necessary?
Since the May 10th, 2019 Subvention meeting hosted by the Government of Jamaica with the Management of the University of Technology, Jamaica, there has been no official statement on the meeting and related agreements, to the public or university community from either our Government, or the Management of UTech, Jamaica.
Is UTech, Jamaica now in a good financial position, as a consequence of decisions made in that May 10th, 2019 meeting?
This is still unknown to the public, and the University community. I dare say unknown to faculty as well, even as great is their rejoicing and anticipation of an improved quality of life, and as it should be.
Do continue to #standwithUTechJamaica
Thanks for your support of our national university.
