Ruel Reid, Min of Education Resigns >>Our Petition is Addressed to Him

Hi Friends,
Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid our Minister of Education, Youth and Information was forced to resign today by our Prime Minister, The Most Hon. Andrew Holness. He has also resigned from the senate. The Hon. Karl Samuda has been appointed as Sen. Reid's replacement, per news updates.
This is significant to us for a number of reasons
- Our petition is addressed to Senator Reid and Prime Minister Holness. For now, we have replaced Senator Reid with Dr. Grace McLean, the Actg. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. Interestingly she is an alumna of UTech, Jamaica.
- The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is the parent Ministry of UTech, Jamaica
- Changes at the Ministry are likely to impact the ongoing discussions and continuous *wait mode that the Ministry continues to place UTech, Jamaica in, as it relates to resolving the subvention matter.
HOW CAN YOU HELP TO ENERGIZE THE PETITION?
The rate of sign-on to the petition has slowed significantly. We ask for your continued and intentional support to get us to the goal of 15,000 signatures.
Our Education Minister's resignation in the context of yet another GOJ scandal, is another signal to us of the importance of citizens to monitor the government that we elect to represent our interests.
This petition gives us a voice. Please do ALL you can to enable us to be taken seriously by the government on the matter of a just subvention to our National University.
SUGGESTIONS
- Keep sharing the petition daily on social media at different times throughout the day, as members of your online community vary on the times they connect online. The more frequent and spaced your posting online, the greater chance for more of your community to see the petition and support it. Why not try a morning, lunch-time, late evening strategy?
- Ask everyone with an email address in your home to sign the petition.
- Convince 1 person each day to sign the petition.
- If you are a member of an online group or a professional association or service club, these groups have size-able membership. Ask the leaders if they would share an email or post to the group members asking them to support the petition. Each time one of our petition stakeholders has shared the link with a group, the response of the respective members caused our numbers to spike.
