The journey began with a deep-seated belief in the need for a reservation system that would address economic disparities rather than perpetuate caste-based divisions. Seeing the growing inequities and recognizing the potential for a more equitable solution, I decided to take action.
On December 11, 2018, I launched a petition entitled "Scrap Reservation from Everywhere" proposing a reservation system based on economic status. The idea was to provide opportunities for those who were economically disadvantaged, regardless of their caste, thus fostering a more inclusive and fair society. My petition quickly gained traction, resonating with many who shared my vision. It garnered over 82,000 signatures, a testament to the widespread support for this cause.
The momentum from the petition could not be ignored. Just a month later, on January 8, 2019, the government introduced the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) bill in the parliament. The rapid progression of this bill reflected the urgency and importance of the issue at hand. Four days later, on January 12, 2019, the EWS bill received the president's assent, officially becoming law. This swift legislative action was a significant victory, a momentous shift in India's reservation policy.
The success of this campaign felt monumental, akin to Batman's triumph over formidable foes like the Joker and Bane. It was a victory not just for me but for all those who believed in and supported a more just and equitable system. This achievement stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the possibility of creating meaningful change through determined advocacy.
