The Indian penal code is one of the most sexist legal codes that exist. The nature of the law is one of the primary reasons for gender inequality in India which affects all genders directly and indirectly. There are countless cases where the law has been misused for personal gain as it's full of loopholes. It's not based on an evidence-gathering system so it's completely sexist.ll

Some examples of the gender biased laws are:

Fight Against misuse of Dowry law (IPC-498a): A married woman can raise her voice with out any proof that she is facing domestic violence. She has the power to accuse any person from the in-laws family and send them to jail. If you see the cases in the website you will see different ways a husband and his family is falsely accused. And jail time means being ostracized by the society.

Section 497 in The Indian Penal Code (IPC 497): “Adultery.—Whoever has sexual intercourse with a person who is and whom he knows or has reason to believe to be the wife of another man, without the consent or connivance of that man, such sexual intercourse not amounting to the offence of rape, is guilty of the offence of adultery, and shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years, or with fine, or with both. In such case, the wife shall not be punishable as an abettor”.

Section 304B in The Indian Penal Code (IPC 304B): If death of a woman is caused by any burns or bodily injury or some domestic mishap, and a husband is proven of any history harassment then he may be sent to jail for 7 years to a lifetime.

Section 37 in The Special Marriage Act, 1954: Husband liable for permanent alimony and support and also wife has right on husband’s property on his death. So, husbands are responsible for the wife while alive and also after death.
