The nursing Work environment is inadequately thought of in relation to their personal safety and security. In present scenario of high work load and topping it with extra load of patient's from natural calamities and disasters ,working is becoming difficult for nurses.Due to poor human resources, no technology, poor support system, they face lots of stress due to which the patient care has suffered. Recently ,we have read many nurses commiting sucides ,many are leaving the profession, and some frustrated and dissatisfied.
Nursing as a profession has faced lots of challenges be it nationally or Internationally.I consider one of the many problems has always been too many chiefs (generally without nursing experience) and not enough nurses on "Board" to take decisions and make policies. The Government should be staffed from top to bottom by people who have healthcare experience, not the administrators whose last job is to think about nurses and their well being. No studies have been done so far on nursing issues related patient care and safety. This all leads " poor patient care","dissatisfied nurses","medical errors", "Injuries" and some time death.
Many times one female nurse has to manage single wards with 50-60 patients, or lonely casualty, operation theatres at night, which make them vulnerable and exposed to unsecured and unsafe working environment. There have been many incidences of violence, abuse, physical assaults. Should this angesl of care be treated like this?
This is going on for decades, poor management of women safety nationally has caused nurses to ask for their rights to work in a decent workplace. The fear and unrest to work alone especially during night duties in the old nightingale wards with heavy patient load and relatives with no security is the big challenge.Due to poor acceptance of nurses as professional in society
Due to poor acceptance of nurses as professional in society, government and hospital management are hardly interested in their issues.
There is no national policy for there nurses related to,
1.safety and security.
2. The dignity of work.
We as Indian Citizen demand, policies for safety and security for all nurses of India.
