Germany has a history of extreme prejudice against those who can be singled out as ‘different’. Germany has worked hard to leave this history behind, and the world has begun to believe that fascism no longer rules German hearts.
In the light of this, the brutal persecution of family Wunderlich cannot be allowed to go unchallenged. It is completely unacceptable to destroy a family, violently kidnap and traumatise children merely for the letter of an illogical and outdated law.
There has been no indication that the family neglected or abused their children in any way. There is no justification for their removal, and the way it was done is unforgivable.
There is in fact no reason for Germany’s irrational ban on homeschooling aside from a lingering bureaucratic habit of demanding conformity for the sake of conformity, left over from Nazi days.
We the undersigned call on the German government to repeal the law against homeschooling and replace it with appropriate 21st Century legislation protecting the right of German families to pursue the education of their choice, within internationally acceptable standards.
We call on the government of Germany to return the children of family Wunderlich to their parents with immediate effect.
We call on the German government to publicly censure all those involved, and to charge all those most directly involved, with Crimen Injuria. Social workers who can sanction and willingly participate in brutal violence against children and their families should no longer be employed by the state.
We call on the government of Germany to provide trauma counselling to all members of the family Wunderlich, free of charge.
As signatories of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Germany must take swift and decisive action to remedy this gross violation of the rights of the children of the family Wunderlich, or stand in the eyes of the world as hypocrites indeed.
