The current penalty for animal cruelty in Fiji is only a fine up to $100 or a maximum prison term of six months as per the Protection of Animals Act 1954 of Fiji. There has been no imprisonment sentence in relation to this till date. However, there are daily incidents of animal abuse, mutilation, burning with scalding hot water, cutting with cane-knives, hit and runs, uncontrolled breeding, and unjustified other sickening and brutal killings so it is high time we come together to demand a revision of these laws for stricter penalties and implementation so the Animals of Fiji are safe and can live their lives without cruel treatment.
