Grant Henry Burris Canadian Citizenship

The Issue

Henry Burris has been a star quarterback in the Canadian Football League for many years. He is a two-time winner of the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award and this year he was given the Tom Pate Memorial Award in recognition of his sportsmanship and significant contributions to his team, community and the CFL Players’ Association. Henry is a man of character and role model for young Canadians.

He and his wife Nicole have been trying to obtain Canadian citizenship for some time, but Immigration and Citizenship Canada continues to put bureaucratic obstacles in their path. His application was rejected in the Spring of 2015 when the Immigration staff decided that being a CFL player was a part-time job. At that point the previous administration stated that they would work with the department and Henry to ensure that the Burris family could remain in Canada, but with the change of government this process has stalled. In November the family's application was once again returned with a demand for more information.

Henry and Nicole's two sons were born in Canada and are Canadian citizens. Please lend your voice to this call to the Canadian Government to remove the barriers that are preventing this fine couple from becoming Canadians.
