Government of British Columbia - Restrict Fireworks Sales!!!

The Issue

Fireworks have their place on a couple of holidays of the year however pyrotechnics are becoming increasingly powerful, toxic, loud and shocking,  and are generally made in dangerous conditions by children.

The sale to the public for use as casual entertainment by anyone, anytime, anywhere is inappropriate in a civilized country and has many ramifications:

Fire Danger - Some of the largest fires in California were set off with fireworks! (example: "Gender Reveal Fire"). California fires burned 1.6 Million Hectares that year and these fires have claimed human lives and an unreported and inconceivable number wildlife who were smoked out of their homes and burned alive. Don't think it can happen here in beautiful British Columbia?

Wildlife and Domestic Animals - Fireworks traumatize both! Wildlife such as deer panic, bolt and abandon their young.  Birds are known to drop dead right out of the sky. Deaths of livestock occur when the animals are frightened and panicked. Family pets suffer greatly and many instances of bolting leading to loss and/or death have occurred.

Human Mental Health - So many people are affected: Those working who need to get up in the morning, Elderly, autistic, PTSD sufferers including our veterans. Sadly in areas selling these, the stressor can be a nightly event.

Environmental Damage - fireworks put very toxic chemicals including heavy metals into the air we breath and toxins and plastic debris into our oceans. The parties setting off the fireworks usually leave behind a hot smouldering chemical soup...often on our beaches or in our forests.

Child Labor - many fireworks are fabricated by child labor in dangerous conditions.

For every small group setting off fireworks anywhere and anytime of the night, there are countless people and animals suffering as a consequence! The answer is simple - get on it - stop the sale and use. There are alternatives such as laser shows available to celebrate!!

We are asking our representatives in the duly elected Government of British Columbia  to be RESPONSIBLE to PROTECT OUR FORESTS, INFRASTRUCTURE, MENTAL HEALTH, PHYSICAL HEALTH and JOBS.  Inaction is causing strife in Regional Municipalities whose hands are tied to legislate this. Bans during high fire risk times are just NOT enough!

A province wide ban outside of 3 holidays a year or professionally run events is LONG OVERDUE.  The use of these WEAPONS - they are becoming increasingly powerful, toxic and loud - in a civilized country - by anyone, anywhere, anytime is completely ridiculous.

Please FORM A COMMITTEE AND UPDATE THE BC FIREWORKS ACT
