SAVE "BETTIAH RAJ" HERITAGE PROPERTY OF BIHAR FROM APPEASEMENT POLITICS.

SAVE "BETTIAH RAJ" HERITAGE PROPERTY OF BIHAR FROM APPEASEMENT POLITICS.
The Issue
Bihar is a unique state in India for it's diverse culture and importance in Indian history both modern and ancient.
Bihar was home of some of the most splendid, sophisticated and prosperous feudal states ruled by local chiefs during the times of Mughal Empire in India.
These local feudal rulers of Bihar developed, funded and built many culturally rich estates with brilliant specimen in experimental architecture, art forms, literary wealth and other cultural reforms.
One of them was Bettiah Raj, started by the direct descendants of a Gorakh Rai Vaid who was a general of Prithviraj Chauhan and was martyred in the battle of Tarain in 1192 fighting the invaders of India.
On it's peak Bettiah Raj was one of the most prosperous feudal state of India and like the other states in Bihar is culturally important and is important also from heritage point of view.
Cunning take over of Bettiah Raj property was started during British Rule by the British who gradually took over part of it after Maharaja Shri Harendra Kishore Singh died issueless in 1893 leaving only his two widows behind who died one after the other leaving no formal caretaker. Today, Valmiki national park and wildlife sanctuary contains some portion of the Bettiah Raj.
Now the problem is that since there is no direct descendant left who can claim the 12,700 hectares of massive land which also includes heritage buildings and other sites of historical and cultural importance, the Bihar government is planning to distribute the land away to few particular communities, a move which is clearly a move of political appeasement in a bid to win over and woo these communities for future political benefits.
Sign this petition to save a massive heritage property of cultural and historical importance from being used as a bait in appeasement politics.
We demand that the property should be transferred to either the next of kin or should be developed as a government museum and park perfectly conserving the heritage of the property in question.
Make a change.
