The world is waking up to an environmental catastrophe caused by our overuse of disposable plastic. Plastic pollution is destroying the marine environment, our beaches and our parks. It is causing harm to fish, birds, other animals and humans alike.
We would like to see the Bermuda government introduce a ban on single-use plastic, such as straws, coffee stirrers, plastic cups, plastic cutlery, styrofoam take-away cups and containers, single-use plastic shopping bags, and more.
Many islands in the Caribbean have already introduced a ban on single-use plastic. It’s time for Bermuda to do the same.
