Petition for Alberta referendum on whether to hold a snap provincial election.

Petition for Alberta referendum on whether to hold a snap provincial election.
The Issue
The United Conservative Party government in Alberta has lost the faith of its citizens. By some points of view, Premier Jason Kenney seems incapable of making decisions that protect the health of Albertans nor the dignity of our landscape and environment. By others, he is a weak-willed leader who restricts our inherent freedoms while enjoying his own.
By employing short-term wishful thinking, he is endangering the province’s future. By flip-flopping on decisions and deflecting blame, he shows he is not capable. His own caucus has called for his resignation; he has banished those who criticized him. His united party is devolving along partisan lines.
The next Alberta election is scheduled in 2023. With our province as divided and unhappy as it is —and our confidence in our provincial government at such a low— this is far too long for all Albertans to wait. Albertan’s should be able to exercise their democratic right, now. If we cannot trust our leaders, we must return to the public will to establish a mandate of governance.
During the 2021 Municipal Elections in Alberta, I would like Elections Alberta to include one additional referendum question for voters to answer. Specifically: “Should Alberta wait until 2023 to hold a provincial election or should Lieutenant Governor, Salma Lakhani, dissolve the Legislative Assembly immediatelyand call a snap election in 2021?”
