I want to create a UK law to be passed that all kittens sold come from a licensed Breeder, I'm not talking about being GCCF , TICA or FIFE as these are just governing bodies that already have rules & guidelines in place, its orientated more to the Breeders that aren't governed by any laws as too many are selling kittens very young & without vital Veterinary checks & vaccines started. Every Breeder should be Licensed with local council & possibly veterinary or council / SSPCA checked that facilities are clean & suitable to keep cats & that genetic checks all their Breeding cats via a Vet & a geneticist . Breeding cats will all be microchipped & this will be recorded on the geneticists report like what I carry out on all my breeding cats. Sounds a lot to ask for but I’ve seen too many badly bred & sick kittens in the 25 yrs I did in Veterinary profession & to this day as a breeder I still hear about kittens with serious heart conditions or early death from viruses & diseases. For example a simple Veterinary examination can detect a heart murmur at 8 weeks & a lot of Breeders are putting out kittens without seeing a Vet & an adoptee is paying basically for a short lived pet with a large Veterinary Bill. Why don't these Breeders  take their litter to be checked ? Simply to save money, do you want to buy a kitten from a Breeder like this ? Hand them literally hundreds of pounds of hard earned cash? Think about it for a minute.........

this will help cut down on sick & ill kittens being sold on the cheap or cheaper than a proper well cared for one that has been vaccinated & examined by a Vet before being sold.

I would also like to see all kittens being vaccinated or at the least Veterinary checked at the expense of the Breeder & them staying until proper weaned & well socialised. A queen will feed her babies vital nutrients till they are 10 weeks old yet I hear of Breeders letting kittens go as early as 7 weeks !!

I am a retired Veterinary Nurse & a well known Ragdoll Breeder in Fife & my work ethics are to protect animals & encourage healthy well socialised cats to be pets for families.

I have seen the heartache of cats dying in my veterinary career from HCM PKD FeLv FIV FIP coronavirus calicivirus etc & it’s mainly down to bad breeding, ignorance & Breeders with no concept or knowledge about breeding that don’t care about anything other than the cash as quickly & as cost effective as they can get it !
