Extend Maternity Exemption Certificates due to inaccessible healthcare during Covid-19
Extend Maternity Exemption Certificates due to inaccessible healthcare during Covid-19
The Issue
Petition to the government to extend Maternity Exemption Certificates by at least 6 months due to essential services such as Dentistry being closed during Covid-19.
With no services to access and even at reopening, long waiting lists such as in Dentistry, new mothers will face financial inequality as their certificates expire.
The effects of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding on the body and teeth are well documented. Healthcare services are essential for postpartum recovery and care.
It is right and fair for this to be extended so that women in 2020 can not only have the opportunity to access the healthcare and dentistry they need but that it is free and available to all as in previous years.
