Establish a new mechanism for waste management for pollution prevention

Establish a new mechanism for waste management for pollution prevention
The Issue
Problem - Improper and redundant waste management system
- The major problems affecting solid waste management are unscientific treatment, improper collection of waste, and ethical problems. This, in turn, leads to hazards like environmental degradation, water pollution, soil pollution, and air pollution.
- Throwing away things wastes resources. It wastes the raw materials and energy used in making the items and it wastes money. Reducing waste means less environmental impact, fewer resources and energy used and saves money.
- Waste Generation in India. According to the Press Information Bureau, India generates 62 million tonnes of waste (mixed waste containing both recyclable and non-recyclable waste) every year.
- Most landfills lack proper on-site waste management thereby contributing to additional threats to the environment. In the long-term, landfills leak and pollute ground water and other neighboring environmental habitats making waste management very difficult.
Solutions to the problems
1. We require a proper waste management system to separate and segregate different types of waste matter.
2. We need to establish an Independent Body (Private contractors) for research about various ways to upgrade the present waste management system and thereby protecting the environment and thus skyrocketing the standards of living for the people
* (why private contractors - So that this process is free from any sort of bureaucracy and the taxpayer's money is put to efficient use.)
3. The funding of this body should be taken care of by the state governments and private volunteers willing to help.
