Rideshare Companies need the Price Rates Regulated

Rideshare Companies need the Price Rates Regulated
The Issue
Rideshare Drivers for popular companies such as Lyft and Uber are being taken advantage of. It's time to put an end to unfair wages and unfounded price cuts. These companies started out with higher per mile and minute rates that were still a great savings, in comparison to Taxi's; and due to competition with each other have dropped from decent and livable wages to, in some states, less than minimum wage.
Since it started operations, Uber has received 10.21 Billion in funding. Lyft, in turn, has received 2.1 Billion in funding, with 1 billion coming from GM just this past December. Neither company is struggling, yet they are forcing their Drivers into poverty by diminishing their earning potentials with false promises that these price cuts will bring in more ridership.
This week alone Uber dropped it's rates in various cities nationwide, and in some cities such as Denver, to as little as $0.66 cents a mile. In Los Angeles, for example, Lyft dropped their rates from $1.10 a mile to $0.95 cents a mile; in turn, Uber cut their rates from $1.00 a mile to $0.90 to try and undercut the competition. To add insult to injury, Lyft followed suit by dropping their rates for the second time in 1 week to $0.88 cents a mile, using the excuse that "With recent price changes from the competition, we need to take action to protect ridership and your long-term earnings. "
Rideshare Drivers Across the country have had enough. Protests are being planned, and this ridiculous rate competition is going to cause a disruption in transportation and traffic in major markets such as San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Enough is Enough! there is a reason that taxi's are regulated with their fare minimums and mileage, and it's time these rideshare companies are, as well.
This Price War to the bottom needs to stop!!! Unfounded price cuts are debilitating the industry. These companies started out with higher per mile and minute rates that were still a great savings in comparison to taxi's. Yet due to competition with each other, rates have dropped from decent and livable wages to, in some states, less than minimum wage.
Drivers Nationwide are requesting the help from the public. We urge both drivers and passengers, plus those who support fair wages, to sign this petition. Let's urge both local and federal government to put a stop to these companies from taking advantage of their drivers and customers by: controlling the way they lower their rates, handle surge pricing, as well as increase the rate to a livable wage while taking into account all expenses accrued by it's drivers.
