Healthcare workers are directly involved in the care of COVID-19 patients without the appropriate PPE. At the end of the day, we love what we do but the stakes are higher than ever before. Other states are starting some kind of hazard pay or bonus for healthcare employees who are dealing with these risks by providing an extra $1k a month to all healthcare employees and $2k a month for those caring for active COVID-19 patients. 

Yes, we signed up to work in healthcare and take care of the sickest of the sick. We did not, however, sign up to work without proper precautions. You don’t send the military out without their weapons. You don’t send a cop in without a bullet proof vest or guns. You shouldn’t be okay sending nurses and respiratory therapists and radiology techs in without our PPE to protect ourselves and our families while we care for these vulnerable patients.
