On September 21, Ghanaians, led by Democracy Hub, staged a 3-day demonstration to #StopGalamseyNow. It's a rallying call against the ongoing mass poisoning of our lands, rivers, and forests. Unfortunately, they were arrested and 53 are currently behind bars, amidst allegations of executive overreach and human rights abuses.
What was thought to be a way to scare off further protests has failed miserably. The #FreeTheCitizens demo that it has sparked this week has garnered more momentum. The flicker the authorities tried to put off with their high-handedness might as well be the spark that changes it all. Thankfully, organized labour is also gearing up for more action next week.
May our collective efforts save us and future generations from a life of devastation, debilitating sickness, and horror from the #ecocide that is currently going on in Ghana.
