Eco-Conscious Citizens, a leading environmental advocacy group in Ghana, has penned an open letter to Ghana's Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akuffo Dampare.
Like our colleagues, we are dismayed that four innocent farmers and youth leaders:
- Patrick Japhet Danso, who is also a teacher
- Adu Kofi
- Samuel Gyampong
- George Ankama
have been remanded in Police custody since Friday, Nov 8, on the mere suspicion of having burnt an excavator, while the real criminals, who have, over the past 3 months, been polluting and poisoning the once pristine Atronsu stream, Nana Atronsu, the main source of water for agricultural and household use in Sefwi Atronsu, walk free.
We reproduce here, our colleagues' open letter, and join them in asking the IGP,
Sir, why this selective justice?
We demand an immediate release of our colleagues and the proper application of justice to those who have willfully poisoned the main source of water for hundreds in the community of Sefwi Atronsu, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North region of Ghana.
