A Personal Message of Gratitude and Urgent Call to Action for #Justice4DaisyAlford
I sincerely thank each and every one of you who signed and supported our petition for environmental justice. Your concern for the environment and protecting Georgians from toxic chemical exposure has meant the world to us. Unfortunately, due to serious threats, harassment and dangerous retaliation we faced after reporting environmental crimes, I have been forced to temporarily halt my environmental advocacy.
While efforts for environmental protection have been sidelined for the moment, there is another urgent fight that cannot wait: the fight to protect my 80-year-old disabled mother who has been the target of violent harassment.
Our situation in Paulding County, Georgia, highlights systemic failures within the judicial system and local and state agencies that allow violence against the elderly, women and the disabled to continue unchecked. Despite numerous attempts to get justice, local and state authorities have failed to act, instead protecting a violent, dangerous individual who deliberately and knowingly committed serious environmental crimes and empowering him to repeatedly harm with impunity. The situation is dire, and we need your help to demand justice before it’s too late.
Over 900 people have already signed in support of my mother’s petition, and we aim to reach 1,000 signatures before our family goes to the Georgia State Capitol. Your voice matters! And every signature brings us one step closer to justice. Our elders deserve to live their remaining years in peace, dignity and safety.
In America, people should absolutely have the right to report environmental crimes without fearing for their safety or their lives.
Thank you, again, for your support, and I ask that you please remember the thousands of voiceless and forgotten Georgia residents still suffering from toxic chemical exposure. To date, over 94,800 complaints have been filed with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, including over 15,220 Air Quality Control complaints.
