Lock down Sri Lanka - the only rational way to minimize the spread of coronavirus

The issue

Sri Lanka needs to be locked down NOW. Not on Wednesday or Tuesday evening. The first few days of an outbreak are crucial and the number of cases reported with Coronavirus are increasing exponentially.

There are people who have flown in from Italy, South Korea and Europe without being quarantined. Hence, there is a high possibility of the virus being spread across the country.

Further, whole of Sri Lanka does not have over 500 ICU beds, all of which are already occupied. This means, lives of many people would be at great danger if the spread of virus is not contained right now.

World over, many countries which are heavily affected FROM COVID-19 have gone for a lock down to best protect its citizens!

However, it the Sri Lankan government does not declare a lock down immediately, it would be too late and could result in an unprecedented number of deaths.

Hence, it is the utmost responsibility of HE The President, The Prime Minister and government to lockdown the country as per the request made by GMOA. Its only a matter of time till the number of patients outrun the number of hospital beds!

To quote the GMOA; "Furthermore, containing the disease is the only path available to our country as our ICU services, including ventilator support, which is necessary to treat patients with advanced COVID19, is already at maximal utilization with virtually no reserve."

Act now, act fast!
