Sri Lanka is in the midst of a crisis as COVID-19's third wave hit the country hard. People are not being vaccinated at a satisfactory rate, and a vaccination shortage has caused many who took the first dosage of vaccines to be left without the second dose. Hospitals are overcrowded and understaffed and the tri-forces of Sri Lanka and all the frontline healthcare workers are working day and night to ensure the patients at least have a bed to spend their recovery on. 

In a background such as this, the impotent Government of Sri Lanka has decided to import luxury SUVs' for the Members of the Parliament of Sri Lanka using taxpayers' money. At a time when public funds should be utilized to their utmost to combat the pandemic, the government is playing with the money and the lives of the citizens of Sri Lanka to satisfy the needs of an elite few. 

We urge and demand the government to immediately halt the import of luxury vehicles for the Members of the Parliament using public funds and to swiftly relocate those funds to provide vaccinations for all Sri Lankans and combat COVID-19.
