In recent days elephant Kandula (aged 57) died in suspicious circumstances at his mahouts residence. The temple has two other elephants Madhu and Muthu like Kandula they are known to be rented out by the temple to tourist camps and even for logging, Rarely are all the elephants present at the temple! This Temple has been reported many times for cruelty, at times the elephants have appeared emaciated!

We call upon the Sri Lankan president and Prime minister along with the Director General of the zoo department to take immediate action to save these elephants from further harm.
