Stop glamorizing an abusive relationship. Chuck and Blair
Stop glamorizing an abusive relationship. Chuck and Blair
The Issue
Abusive relationships, whether physical or emotional, should not be tolerated by anyone, let alone be shown in a TV show like it's all right, especially when said TV show is directed towards so many young women/teenagers. IT IS NOT OKAY.
Young teenage girls are very impressionable.
P.S
I'm not a Dair fan nor Chair one. I'm just a 21 year-old full time post grad student. I ocassionaly watch GG and through the years, I started to dislike the way the writers "glamourizing" the love story between Blair and Chuck since Season 2. And the way they make like it is True Love or Epic is just plain stupid. Whenever I watch GG, it apalled me that there's no public announcement at the end of every episodes, at least the one where Chuck/Blair display their "love" for each other.
I know something about abusive relationships. I come from a well to do family, and grew up watching my mom helping the abused people. Sadly, most are women and children, some are even just months old. After years of helping them (paying for medical bills, paying rentals, buying them food), my mom bought this building and made it like a hybrid hospital/apartments. And that was just my mom doing it, her own time, money, tears and blood. Now, she's working with volunteers...(lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers, business owners and others) to make the abused people live a better life for themselves. and the thing is, they can and do. But alas, some do come back to their abusers. My mom lost countless of them thruogh the years. Some are killed and some went missing. But my mom is still trying. And with the money she's using helping these people, my sister and I can just kiss our inheritance away. But strangely enough, I'm ok with it.
So, please Chair fans, don't say that I don't know anything about abusive relationships. I see it everyday. Some days, I don't even want to see them...break downs, helplessness and suicidal tendencies and shame on their beautiful faces. It is sad reality but real to me.
I do read on both the Dair and Chair tags. Some posts are just plain sad. The finale made me do this petition. It was just awful. How can a strong woman, who is finally in a stable loving relationship comes back to her abuser without rhyme or reason. And to make it worse, I was watching with my 13 year-old cousin, whom thiks it was so sweet. I immediately set her straight that it was not sweet but destructive. I gave her lecture about different kinds of abuse. Be it mental, psychological, emotional, verbal or physical one. Thankfully, I think she finally knows the different between sweet and toxic love. I just want the tweens/teens/young adults to know that there are a lot of abuse, not just physical ones. So, there you go.
By the way, sorry about my English, not my first language. And in case you are wondering why I never mentioned my dad, well, he's the reason why mom is doing this. My mom is a victim too. My dad couldn't take that my mom's from a wealthy family and she's earning way more than him. My mom was the CEO of a big company, while my dad is just a "lowly government employee". He verbally her abused for years before my mom had enough. She divorced him.
