The issue

We have had a problem with flooding on the Woy Woy Peninsula, NSW, Australia for a very long time now - well over 20 years. Our streets are flooding on an an increasingly regular basis. Many cars have been written off after driving through the flood waters and being swamped with water, emergency vehicles cannot get down our streets in an emergency, water is beginning to enter some houses, mosquitoes are breeding in pockets of stagnant water which take up to 2 weeks to drain.

The drainage problems have been caused by increasing demand on our storm water drains caused by changing housing and population density which the drains, when installed were not designed to cope with, high maintainence costs of the current drainage system, our flat and low lying land on the Woy Woy Peninsula.

We need the Gosford council to:

1) Immediately clear out the sand buildup and debris in our storm water drains.

2) We need the council to completely clear out the Everglades Main Drain canal where the water drains into the sea, as well as all other drainage canals on the peninsula.

3) Begin a program in the next Major Works budget to make a complete upgrade and overhaul of the storm water drains on the Woy Woy Peninsula.
