Gorham for Diversity and Inclusion!

The Issue

Please join us in asking the Gorham Officials to make a public statement and stance regarding The Black Lives Matter Movement.  We are hoping Town Officials will follow the GPD’s leadership in working together with our local ‘Gorham Anti-Racism Action Group Program’ created by Anas Beshir and join us moving forward around conscious racial awareness in a new and improved way.

We feel strongly that collectively recognizing and standing with the diversity and inclusion this movement brings we will be able to open new doors of connection and growth for the residents and families here in Gorham.

At this very racially charged time in our lives it seems irresponsible to the Black and Indigenous People of Color we share a community with to not stand behind them in solidarity.  Saying nothing, even when pressed, has left the community to assume this matter is not supported by Town Council.

The clear and only exception of this is from Council Member, Ginny Wilder Cross, who commendably mentioned her own personal work recently in understanding today’s civil rights issues and even honorably mentioned working on her own subconscious racial biases. Other than that the Town Council has been tight lipped.

This is not and should not be a political issue. This is a Human Rights issue and we all have a key role in laying a strong foundation in how we value all human life here and what we want the future of Gorham to look and feel like.

Please help us to create a diverse friendly town where every resident, child, family and visitor feels safe and celebrated.

Together We Rise.
