It has been a big week. The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Vox have all run pieces on the situation with Dennis and Google, as have media outlets in Germany and Italy.
Google has broken its silence. Its lawyers are now in touch with Dennis's lawyer. Dennis cannot discuss the situation at this time, but hopefully they will reach a positive resolution soon.
Until they do, let's keep sharing, keep talking about the situation, keep demanding that Google value our spaces, our art, our communities. That Google not arbitrarily eliminate a major work--made up of thousands of smaller works--from one of our most important writers.
We want the same thing today that we wanted when this petition went up two weeks ago: for Google to restore Dennis's blog and email. Or to at a minimum to return to him the ten years of data from his blog.
I encourage people to read the hundreds of comments on the petition-- eloquent statements (at times baffled and angry) from all around the world about freedom, corporate responsibility, transparency, the value of writing and community. A world of readers, writers, and artists demanding answers.
But the comment that really says everything is (as of this writing), the most recent one, posted a few moments ago by Imke in London:
"I want a great work of art restored."
Google, we ask you to make this better. It is in your power. We want a great work of art restored.
Mark
