Keep the SuperPoke! Pets App

Keep the SuperPoke! Pets App
The Issue
History of SuperPoke! Pets:
SuperPoke! was created within a month of Facebook's creation. It was the first major Facebook App in which you could not only "poke" people but you could: smile, wink, slap, and smack friends on Facebook. This app quickly spread onto Myspace. Animal characters were used much like their "signature". After Slide.com purchased SuperPoke! they decided to use the characters and create virtual pets for the social networks’ users. After its launch in April of 2008, SuperPoke! Pets (more commonly referred to as SPP) quickly became Slide.com’s most lucrative property and they created SPP Top Fish and SPP Ranch apps.
What is SuperPoke! Pets?
SPP was originally available to social networks like Facebook, MySpace, and Hi5. You begin by adopting a virtual pet, there are 13 pets to choose from: Dragon, Monkey, Penguin, Sheep, Chicken, Bunny, Pig, Cat, Frog, Turtle, Tiger, Dog, or Panda. You then can feed, tickle, bathe, and play with your pet to gain experience and gain levels. You can also gain experience by decorating habitats, completing quests, growing plants, getting awards, or visiting neighbors. You can Join clubs, enter contests, play games, collect items, or make friends. There are so many things available to the SPP player that it makes it not only a game, but an entire social network!
Why is this petition on Change.org?
In August 2010 Slide was acquired by Google. Google really kicked up the heat by adding many new features to slide and creating different ways that the players could spend their money on SPP products. From “gold” that could be used to buy special items to VIP memberships or even pet spas! You could still play SPP for free but, like most other apps, the gold items were nearly irresistible! Some of the badges available in the game were only available to those who acquired gold items. In June of 2011, SPP announced that they would no longer “fuel” SPP because they felt that it had reached a point of self growth. They no longer released new items and stopped the ability to buy gold or memberships. This angered many players. All of the gold that they had bought was now worthless, and the gold items that they owned were now worth silver, which was earned (not bought). Despite how angry people got, most kept playing. They had already put a lot of money into SPP and didn’t want to “waste” it. The average SPP gold item was probably originally worth $3 (USD), but many were $5 or more (including some worth $25+)! Then in September 2011, SPP announced that the website will be shut down and go offline March 6, 2012.
All of the time, energy, and money that the players have put into the game will just “vanish” with nothing to show. They will just delete the program and all of its players and their pets. Some players put thousands of dollars into the game throughout the last 3.5 years. Google will not give refunds in any way shape or form. All they have to say is that they are saddened by the loss. Many people are thinking of filing lawsuits. I understand that currently SPP is a different department, and that those people are being relocated. But why can’t they just move SPP over to Google+ games? Why deplete those who look to SPP like many Facebook users look to Facebook? With over 170 million users, It’s an outrage.
