Prohibit Video Ads in Android Apps

The Issue

In public places, our smartphones are our lifelines to the outside world as well as our entertainment for both music and games. Because of this fact, users should not be forced to embarass themselves in public solely because they forget to mute their phone's system volume, which controls the music we love to listen to, even tho an app has already had its sound turned off. Too often, the video ads are loud and ubrupt, which is embarassing in public places. Sometimes, friends, family, and coworkers might be in the vicinity, which rubs salt into the wound. Worse, these ads cannot be skipped until 5 or more seconds in many new apps. The ads neither make users want to buy the product advertised, or give money via paid versions and "donations" to the developers for insulting our senses like this. The ads also use up valuable data from our limited data plans users need to power their already expensive devices. The ads also use up battery, which makes getting in touch with loved ones, colleagues, and friends harder, as battery life is an issue on these things.

We, therefore, petition Google to prohibit developers from putting involuntary video ads in the apps which are distributed via the Google Play Store.

Google, you pride yourself on not "being evil." Don't let the developers to whom you give a platform be evil as well.
